Getting Personalized Book Recommendations

2 min read 10 views

When you log in to your patron dashboard, you may see a Recommended For You section showing up to 6 book tiles. These suggestions are chosen by the library's AI based on your personal borrowing history — the books you have previously checked out.

The recommendations update automatically as you borrow more books. You do not need to do anything to turn this on.

How It Works

The system analyses your past borrowing activity and finds books in the library catalog that are similar in topic, genre, or subject. It uses a technique called vector embeddings to understand the content and themes of books, not just their titles.

  • If you have a borrowing history, you will see personalized picks.
  • If you are new to the library and have not borrowed any books yet, the section will show the library's most popular titles instead.
  1. Log in and go to your Dashboard.
  2. Scroll down to the Recommended For You section.
  3. Each book tile shows the cover image, title, and author.
  4. Click any tile to open the book's detail page in the catalog.
  5. From the detail page you can check availability, place a hold, or add the book to your reading list.

What You'll See

Up to 6 book cards arranged in a row. Each card has a cover image (or a placeholder if no image is available), the book title, and the author name.

Tips

  • The more books you borrow, the better your recommendations become.
  • If a recommended book is not available right now, place a hold so you are notified when it is returned.
  • Looking for something specific? Use AI Search or Browse Catalog in the Discover section of the sidebar.
