"The fine amount looks wrong"

What you might see: A fine that seems too high or too low compared to what you expected.
Why this happens: Fines are calculated automatically based on your school's borrowing rules (loan policy). The amount depends on:
- How many days late the book was
- The grace period (days before fines start)
- The daily fine rate
- The maximum fine cap
How to fix it:
- Check the loan policy that applies to this borrower and book type.
- Do the math:
- Days late = return date minus due date
- Subtract the grace period
- Multiply by the daily rate
- If there is a maximum cap, the fine will not be higher than that
- If the fine is genuinely incorrect, contact your school admin to review the loan policy settings.
- If the policy is correct but the situation warrants it, you can waive the fine (another librarian must approve).
Example: A student returned a book 8 days late. The grace period is 1 day and the daily rate is PHP 5 with a maximum cap of PHP 50.
- Billable days: 8 - 1 = 7
- Fine: 7 x PHP 5 = PHP 35 (under the PHP 50 cap, so the fine is PHP 35)
